A business reached out to us because their logo, or favicon, wasn’t appearing in Google search results. Frustrated, they needed a quick solution to restore their brand’s visibility. From our experience, we know that a missing logo in search results can often be traced back to two main issues: improper implementation or a broken URL path. Hereโs how we investigated and resolved the problem.
The Challenge
The first thing we did was examine the websiteโs favicon implementation. Everything seemed fine in the code, but the logo still wasnโt showing up in search results. After further investigation, we identified the root cause: the URL path to the favicon was broken, resulting in a 404 error. This broken link was preventing Google from properly displaying the logo.
What We Learned
Once we discovered the broken URL, we quickly corrected the path and ensured the favicon file was accessible. We also requested Google to reindex the page so that the search engine could recognise the update. Once these changes were made, the logo appeared in search results as it should, restoring the businessโs brand visibility.
Before Fix
Before the fix, the favicon was not appearing in search results due to the broken URL.
After Fix
After correcting the URL, the favicon appeared as expected in the search results.
Key Takeaways
- Broken URLs can cause logos to disappear: Even when the logo is properly implemented, a broken URL can prevent it from appearing in search results.
- Regular checks are essential: Monitoring how your favicon displays in search results can help spot issues early and prevent frustration.
- Quick fixes restore brand visibility: Fixing a broken URL and requesting reindexing can quickly restore your logo’s appearance in search results, ensuring your brand stays visible.
